More colloquially known as the Brahms RequiemEin deutsches requiem stands as one of the most revered and emotionally profound choral works of all time. Composed between 1865 and 1868, this requiem is unique in its departure from the traditional Latin text used in Catholic requiems. Instead, Brahms chose to set passages from the German Lutheran Bible, selecting texts that emphasize comfort, solace, and the human experience of grief and consolation. This innovative approach gives the Brahms Requiem a universal appeal, transcending religious boundaries and offering a message of hope and consolation to all listeners.

This concert explores Brahms' own arrangement of the work for chorus and one piano four-hands, featuring breathtaking solos by soprano Aléxa Anderson and baritone Tim Murray. Featured at the keys are pianist Nancy Whitecar and our own Staff Pianist Dan Cromeenes, celebrating 15 years with Santa Clara Chorale.
